Wednesday after-school club
Arran Youth Foundations are to launch a new after-school film-making club on a Wednesday afternoon - and young people who attend are in with a chance of winning a £50 cash prize, thanks to the generosity of the Auchrannie!
Sponsored run fundraiser
Youth work project manager Graeme Johnston completed a sponsored run to raise funds for the new purpose-built AYF facility on Wednesday 28th September 2011.
Starting at the Glenartney hotel in Brodick, he ran the 3 mile cycle path to Lamlash, through the village of Lamlash to the youth cabins next to the high school, where he met Liz and Nikki from Community Learning & Development for a quick photo!
He then took the steep uphill path at the back of Benlister Road, joining the path back to Brodick passing Meall Buidhe and going through the forest before coming out at Glen Cloy and the Auchrannie.
Grant competition - help needed!
Arran Youth Foundations are in with a chance to win a £6,000 grant, but they need the help of the island's people.
The charity, currently fundraising for a purpose-built youth centre in Brodick, have entered an online Royal Bank of Scotland competition where the group in each area with the most votes stand to win the money. As the only project from the island to enter, Youth Work Project Manager Graeme Johnston hopes they have a massive advantage - and he has valuable experience in drumming up votes!
Football tournament
On Saturday 24th September, Arran Youth Foundations took part in an end of summer football tournament, planned in conjunction with North Ayrshire Council's Community Learning & Development and their group from Beith.
This took place at the Ormidale pavilion astroturf in Brodick. We greatly appreciate the use of the facilities there.
Friday nights moving to church hall
Arran Youth Foundations are moving to Brodick church hall in a bid to grow with the island's demand for youth services.
Having run for the past year out of the small cabin behind the library, the charity are currently fundraising for a purpose-built facility; in the short-term, however, it is felt that the church hall will offer far better opportunities for Arran's young people. As of tonight (Friday 9th September) the charity will open in the church hall from 19.00-21.00 every Friday.
