About Arran Youth Foundations
Arran Youth Foundations was established as a non-profit making charity as a company under guarantee in 2008. It was converted to a SCIO in 2023.
Based in Lamlash, our youth centre is a safe, warm environment where young people can engage in fun and meaningful youth work activities, sharing a laugh with friends and assisting them to reach their potential through activities of their choice.
Through the gradual development of their management skills and with ever-increasing young person involvement, it is hoped that in time the young people will increasingly administer the centre themselves, through the supervision and mentorship of Graeme, our full-time Youth Work Project Manager.
The Committee
Our charity has six trustees (Richard, Diana, Ian, John, Sylvia and Nicola) and a committee who meet on a monthly basis to discuss the progress of the project. We have two full-time employees and a third full-time post shared by two youth workers. Those involved with AYF are detailed below:
Ian Staples Safeguarding Officer
In his role as Safeguarding Officer, Ian`s responsibilities include being the named contact to whom any Child Protection concerns should be reported. In such an instance Ian will then report to appropriate authorities, while respecting confidentiality. In this role he will also keep up-to-date with the latest Child Protection training through our affiliation with Youth Scotland, as well as taking responsibility for our Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme checks. As the recently retired manager of Arran Outdoor Education Centre, Ian has worked for many years with the young people of Arran and beyond. His input at committee meetings is invaluable. He enjoys a great relationship with many of our close partners at North Ayrshire Council, strengthening the ties between us that are formalised through our working agreement. So many young people have enjoyed positive outcomes thanks to Ian`s work with them in challenging situations and environments, and he now brings this experience to our committee. … read more read less .
